Jaisalmer is located in the state of Rajasthan, in the Thar Desert. Is recognized for the camel safaris in the desert and is dubbed “The Golden City” because of the golden desert sand that covers its streets and surroundings. Everything there is gold from their homes through its streets and ending in his beautiful fort.
The desert nights are particularly cold, but I must say that Jaisalmer nights, are much colder than anywhere else in Rajasthan. We arrived to Jaisalmer on a coming bus from Bikaner at three in the morning, maybe it was not the best decision we made but it was an interesting experience, we were lucky that close to where we were left, was a small place with a bonfire on the street and on it a giant pot in which all the time was boiling chai. We spent the night there in the company of the heat produced by the fire that was constantly supplied with pieces of dried manure (cow feces) in order to keep the fire burning, until dawn finally arrived.
From any point of the city you can see the imposing Jaisalmer Fort that stands out, within this, there are various temples, palaces, markets and also gives us a beautiful view of the Golden City and the Thar Desert. Walking the streets inside the fort, you can see the beautiful wood carving work that have the house fronts, worked entirely by hand with infinite amount of detail, something just incredible. As proof of the creativity and industriousness of the inhabitants of this city, you can get everywhere crafts made by local people, like bed sheets, cushions, decorations, among others.
In my opinion, Jaisalmer is a city camouflaged within the beautiful desert colors that surround it. Moreover with the incredible own culture and tradition of Rajasthan. A perfect place that gives you the best view and the essence of what the Thar Desert is.
